Even "senior" animals need love too, and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona is celebrating Senior Pet month with discounted adoption fees for its 'senior pets'.
During November, every senior pet (cat or dog that is six years or older) will have a discounted adoption fee of $25 (the additional licensing fee of $18 still applies to all dog adoptions).
Officials with the HSSA are urging the public to remember the homeless senior pets around Tucson when they are considering adopting an animal. Often these are the pets that need homes the most, and have often gone through a traumatic experience before getting to the shelter, like an owner's death or a move to a senior community where the owner can no longer care for the pet.
The discounted adoption fee is available at the HSSA main campus (3450 North Kelvin Boulevard), PAWSH at Park Place and PAWSH at La Encantada.
In addition to the discounted adoption fee, there will also be a 25 percent discount on merchandise (for adopters), to help welcome their new senior pet into their home. Pet supplies that are purchased at the HSSA are tax free and 100 percent of the proceeds go back to the shelter.
