People have been swooning over organic food as a healthier way to eat for a generation or so, and it was inevitable that the pet food industry would follow suit, which it did a decade or so ago. And it came on the scene with a splash and enjoyed rapid, but short-lived growth. It is presently in decline.
In 2012 nearly 5 per cent of pet owners purchased organic food for their dogs and cats, but that number has continually declined. This year, Packaged Facts, a marketing research group, puts the percentage of pet owners feeding organic foods at 3.9 per cent.
