Organization makes massive food donation for pets - KRQE News 13

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A local organization is making sure pets across the state have something to eat.

Long Leash on Life donated 150,000 pounds of food to pet food banks and rescues. The donation is part of their 2nd annual Pay it Pet-ward Food Drive.

The majority of the organizations are under-funded and overrun with homeless cats and dogs.

“Pet overpopulation is a pretty big problem that I don’t think a lot of people realize, especially in the rural areas in New Mexico,” said Norm Shrout, Long Leash on Life. “We’ve had people in tears over the amount of food they’re getting because it will keep them going for the next 3 or 4 months.”

The massive donation was distributed to about 30 rescue organizations across the state.
