WILLIAMSPORT – A new local pet food pantry is being started by a group of animal-loving volunteers.

“We saw a need in our community, organized a small group of passionate volunteers with the necessary skills and experience, and put the wheels in motion,” volunteer Tracy Haas-Ungard explained.

Pet Pantry of Lycoming County will provide pet food for families in need. It will be housed at Beckoning Cat Project, a low-cost spay and neuter clinic at 1417 East Third Street, Williamsport.

The Pantry is currently accepting donations of pet food.

“Any type of pet food is gladly accepted,” Haas-Ungard added. “The package must be sealed and not expired, but it can be for cats or dogs, wet food or dry food. We appreciate every donation. Just drop off at Beckoning Cat Project, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m."

Another Pet Pantry collaborative partner along with Beckoning Cat Project is Animal Care Sanctuary (ACS). “ACS has had a similar program for a long time and was kind enough to share the experience and knowledge they’ve gained over the years,” Haas-Ungard said. “We’re quite fortunate to have a well-rounded group of expert volunteers on this project.”

In addition to accepting pet food donations from the public and retailers, volunteers also have monetary fundraisers being planned. The first of which is Pet Photos with Santa on Saturday, December 2 at Fort Muncy Garden Center. Sponsored by Rick Mason Photography and Fort Muncy Garden Center (FMGC). Pet photos will be available for $15 cash. FMGC will also donate $2 for the sale of each living Christmas ornament that day only.

Once there is ample supply of pet food donated, Pet Pantry plans to open in November or December. To learn more and for the latest information, like Pet Pantry of Lycoming County on Facebook.
