TOMS RIVER, NJ — We all think about making sure those in need have food and a decent meal at Thanksgiving.
The folks behind Lost Dog Search & Rescue are trying to ensure our four-legged friends have food as well.
The group is holding a pet food drive this Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Rub-A-Dub Dog Wash at 2008 Rt 37 East, Toms River. The collection event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and organizers are asking for nonperishable pet food items to be dropped off there to Laura Seylaz.
For those of you that want to meet Raven our newest Lost Dog Search & Rescue Search Team Member and SAR dog in training, She will be there also giving out kisses and thanking people for helping!
The event, the fourth annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for People and Pets, will benefit the Volunteer Auxiliary for Animal Shelters Inc., which supports two pet food pantries in Ocean County: the East Dover Baptist Church Pet Food Bank and the Jackson Women of Today's Pet Food Bank. Those two programs support more than 400 families per month with pets, families who participate in the "people" food banks.
With these programs, low-income families can keep their pets instead of surrendering them to the county shelter, organizers said.
The human food will go to the Potter's Pantry of the Cedar Creek Community Church, 370 Nixon Ave., Bayville NJ 08721.
