Kawasaki Tennessee issued a challenge to its employees recently to collect pet food for three animal shelters in the Lakeway Area.
The employees of the Die Casting and Manufacturing plants took the challenge between Sept. 16 and Oct. 14.
A total of 5,020 pounds of food was collected with Die Casting harboring 2,864 pounds and Manufacturing garnering 2,156 pounds.
The plant and employees also donated $600 in cash for other needs at the shelters.
“This is much more than we expected,” Jonathan Hill, Kawasaki Tennessee senior production manager said. “At the end of the day, the shelters and organizations are the ones that win.
The shelters getting the food are the Morristown-Hamblen Humane Society, the Jefferson County Humane Society and C.A.R.E. Jefferson County Rescue.
Morristown-Hamblen Humane Society received a pallet of food and a check for $300. The Jefferson County Humane Society received two pallets of food while C.A.R.E. Jefferson County Rescue received two pallets of food and a check for $300.
Since Sept., 2002, Kawasaki Tennessee has been a Tier I supplier to Toyota engine and vehicle plants. Kawasaki also supplies many other Tier I automotive manufacturers. These pars are ultimately used on Toyota, General Motors, Honda, Nissan and Mazda cars and trucks manufactured in North America.
Kawasaki’s production process include die casting and machining with some assembly. The plant employs 400 workers from all over East Tennessee.
