Kemin Nutrisurance completed a $6 million expansion project at its Vargeão, Brazil pet food production facility that increased the site’s raw material capacity by 900% and finished goods storage by 1500%, the Kemin Industries unit announced in a recent release. The new capabilities will enable the firm to serve more customers in South America and other markets around the world.

The newly-updated 5000-sq-m facility includes a research and development center, added storage capacity, and new production equipment. Kemin installed a new spray dryer in the Vargeão plant for use in production of pet health and nutrition ingredients like protein hydrolysates and functional ingredients. The company’s palatant product lines, including meat and plant-based flavoring solutions for pet products, will be produced at the site.

The plant currently has certifications to serve South American and European countries, and the company is in the process of applying for similar credentials for the U.S. Kemin’s plant also has GMP certification for food safety and quality and employs a LEAN manufacturing system to improve processes and product quality. Plans are underway to obtain FSSC 22000 food safety certification for the plant as well.

50 new jobs were created as a result of Kemin Nutrisurance’s investment.
