INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A local organization is honoring a fallen hero in a unique way. Officer Rod Bradway with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was killed in the line of duty three years ago. On Wednesday, a pet supply drive was held in his honor, benefiting a group called German Shepard Rescue Indy.
Officer Bradway and his family often volunteered with the organization. Each year on the week that marks his death the group holds this supply drive.
The event is hosted by Indianapolis City Market. People dropped off pet food, toys, and cleaning supplies.
Officer Bradway’s widow still volunteers with the organization. She said the event is a great way to honor her husband while helping animals in need.
“Rod loved the German Shepards. He loved to volunteer and to help these dogs and you know… to carry on, it means something,” said Jamie Bradway.
German Shepard Rescue Indy works to find homes for dogs at kill shelters. According to its website, the group has saved nearly 500 dogs since it was founded in 2011.
