Basehor clinic holding pet supply drive - Leavenworth Times

For the third year, Basehor’s Wolf Creek Veterinary Clinic is holding a pet supply donation drive at its facility at 14370 Parallel Road.

Appropriately named Paw It Forward, this supply drive supports nonprofit organizations including the Leavenworth County Humane Society, Safe Harbor Prison Dog Program and Bonner Animal Rescue. These organizations solely rely upon donations.

“All three of these groups do amazing work and have dedicated volunteers,” said Whitney Weyer, Wolf Creek Veterinary Clinic office manager. “These volunteers usually always have their own family, their own pets and full-time jobs and still find time to volunteer for animals in need. We understand how hard these people work to keep these groups going. We do whatever we can to help them.”

In addition to monetary donations which are always welcome, the following supplies are in need: laundry soap, towels, blankets, cat litter, leashes, toys, box fans, disinfecting wipes, dryer sheets and bleach. Gently used items are welcome. Donations may be dropped off until the end of the year at the clinic on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. as well as Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until noon.

“We created this drive three years ago with one simple goal in mind – helping pets in need. We continue sponsoring this drive each year because we love pets, we love people and we love making a difference. We are passionate about taking care of our pets and their owners on a daily basis, but this event allows us to give back to our community,” Weyer said.

While charities and donation drives around the holidays already exist for people, Wolf Creek Veterinary Clinic wanted to create something especially for pets, which is their passion.

Dr. Nikki Green has been practicing in the clinic since 1999 when it was Tuttle Veterinary Clinic. She purchased the clinic in 2009 and changed the name to Wolf Creek Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Sarah Maddox joined the practice in 2010 and the clinic will expand next year to include another doctor. The clinic cares exclusively for small animals.

While many donations for the drive come from Basehor residents, people from around the Kansas City area are also adding to the stash of donated items. Items have been coming in for several weeks and will continue through the end of the year.

“We have a great team and enjoy being a work family. We pride ourselves on treating pets like they are our own and clients like our friends,” said Weyer.
