The Benzie County Animal Shelter is asking for your help as we head into the holiday season.
Monday kicked off their Seventh Annual Pet Food Drive.
The shelter almost entirely depends on community donations.
Their annual food budget is only $200.
And with an average of 40 or more pets in the shelter at a time, a big inventory of food is important.
From November 21 until December 5, you can stop at the Family Fare in Frankfort, Shop N Save or Tractor Supply in Benzonia, Family Market in Honor, or the animal shelter to donate.
“It's very crucial. Without that help from the community, and we do have some corporate sponsors that give us food every now and then, but without that food coming in here we'd have to re-access what we're going to do as far as taking care of the place,” says Edwin Carter, assistant Animal Control officer.
The shelter says their greatest needs are wet cat and dog food, and cat litter.o
