WHEATON – A furniture store plans to open early next year in the former Pet Supplies Plus store along Roosevelt Road in Wheaton.
Acosta's Consignment specializes in upscale, nearly new furniture and home accessories. Acosta's also has stores in Batavia and St. Charles.
Christine Acosta owns Acosta's Consignment with her husband. The couple lives in St. Charles.
Plans are for the new store in the 900 block of East Roosevelt Road – next to the Seven Dwarfs Restaurant – to open in January 2017. Acosta said the building is ideally located.
"This opportunity arose and we took it, based on the fact that it was a great location," Acosta said. "It's in the middle of where we wanted to be for our existing customer base as well as new ones... We feel like it is the right move for us at this time."
The building is about 12,000 square feet, a little smaller than the Batavia store.
"But it's a big store," Acosta said. "It will be much more open than our current Batavia store."
The majority of the items for sale at Acosta's Consignment were previously owned, Acosta said.
"Consignors are moving or downsizing or redecorating," she said. "We have pickup services if they need them, and then we can have the items picked up from their location and then brought over to ours. We also have other companies and stores that consign with us as well. So we have a mix of previously owned and new items that are all on consignment."
Shoppers will find that all of the items look new.
"We are very picky about the items that we take in," Acosta said. "They need to be in excellent condition, and they need to be in style. So we do look for styles that are either current or timeless. We don't do a lot in the way of antiques. We will take on a few antique pieces here and there if they are unique."
