Louisville has been chosen for one of the first national screenings of the documentary “Pet Fooled,” which exposes the underbelly of the commercial pet food industry. The showing will take place Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Village 8 Theatres and will benefit local pet nonprofit The Arrow Fund.
The film follows veterinarians Barbara Royal (Oprah’s vet) and Karen Becker as they challenge the multibillion-dollar pet food industry, which is essentially dominated by four corporations.
It also examines the history of the industry and questions whether corn and other grains — main ingredients in dog food — are actually good for pets.
“I made this film because I believe every consumer has a right to know exactly what’s in the products that they are purchasing,” said director Kohl Harrington in a press release. “Consumers have a right to question the products they are buying and demand transparency from the companies regarding quality, sourcing and long-term health effects.”
Local companies Barkstown Road and Rudy’s Green Doggy Cuisine are sponsoring the screening, and $1 from each ticket sold goes to The Arrow Fund, which provides care and support to abused and neglected animals.
“Pet Fooled” screens at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Village 8, 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Tickets are available online for $11.
