Store sponsors adoption event - Rocky Mount Telegram

A local retailer is holding a special pet adoption event Saturday as part of its parent company’s Pet Appreciation Week celebration.

The Tractor Supply Company store at 506 Sutter’s Creek Blvd. will host the event in partnership with Friends of Rocky Mount Animals in hopes of finding forever homes for a select group of dogs. The event begins at 9 a.m. inside the store and will allow potential pet parents to find their perfect new canine kids while also shopping for pet supplies alongside current pet parents. Shoppers can purchase the supplies for their own furry friends and for donation to local animal rescue groups and shelters.

Rocky Mount Tractor Supply Manager Brenda Long said she hopes it will be a successful event. She added community support for local rescue groups and shelters is key to that potential success.

“We look forward to greeting your family pets at the store and on Saturday, we hope to help some families take home an adoptable animal from one of our community rescues,” Long said. “Our local animal rescues are most successful when the community rallies behind them, and this year we have the ability to make a major impact. After all, Pet Appreciation Week is about celebrating all of our community’s pets and animals — and that includes the ones living in our local shelters.”

Laura Gearhart, director of Friends of Rocky Mount Animals, agreed.

“It is very important for people to rally behind local rescues and shelters,” Gearhart said. “Having the support of the community helps us with donations, volunteers, helping us share our animals on Facebook and promoting via other forms of social media and even the old fashioned way — word of mouth.”

Gearhart added she is deeply appreciative of the support that Tractor Supply Company offers Friends of Rocky Mount Animals.

“We have a long-standing relationship with Tractor Supply Company,” Gearhart said. “Brenda and her staff have been extremely supportive of our efforts. They support us in a variety of ways and allow us an avenue to promote our dogs to the community that is very essential to us in finding them loving homes.”

Along with presenting pets for adoption, Tractor Supply Company also will feature a demonstration from one of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 deputies along with demonstrations on pet nutrition. A local Boy Scouts of America troop also will be on hand selling popcorn throughout the day as part of the event. There will also be an on-site neuter and return rescue from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Saturday’s adoption event is not the only one of its kind that the store will host this week. Long said the store also worked with a cat rescue group Wednesday for a cat adoption event that was held inside the store.
