Appleton Police arrest man with pellet handgun in pet store parking lot - WBAY

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - Appleton Police arrested a man Wednesday after he pulled a pellet-style revolver in the parking lot of a pet store.

Police responded to the Pet Supplies Plus parking lot at Northland Mall after several people called 911 to report a man was waving a black handgun in an "aggressive manner."

Police say the man obeyed orders and dropped the gun. He was taken into custody.

"It was later learned that the male is suffering form serious mental illness and as such, was placed on a protective hold for his safety and the safety of others," reads a statement from the police department.

Police say the handgun was a BB or pellet-type revolver.

Investigators are working with the Outagamie County District Attorney's Office on possible charges.

The man's name was not released.

Police were called to the scene at 12:30 p.m.
