Every holiday season, local businesses are gracious to accept HSO’s collection boxes for donations of pet food and supplies from shoppers. From November through end of December, Becky Otts, who volunteered to head up the fundraiser for another year, wrapped, placed, collected and tallied donations, and delivered items to the shelter. Businesses which participated were Dogwood Grooming, James Market, and Walmart of Mena and Tractor Supply of DeQueen. The 2017 totals were 474 items, with 1537.6 pounds of food and 281 pounds of cat litter! HSO is continually appreciative of the generosity of Polk County animal lovers who help HSO help pets in need.
