The holidays are a season of giving and making sure that no one goes hungry.

Local animal welfare group PAWS of Michigan is working to ensure that generosity extends to family pets, as well.

The organization is hosting its second annual “Pet Photos with Santa” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at The PAWS Clinic, 21210 Goddard Road in Taylor. The event benefits the PAWS pet food bank.

Photos with Santa “Paws” are free with a donation of canned or dry cat or dog food or cat litter, or a minimum $5 cash donation. Photos are taken on your own camera.

Lisa Thomlinson, PAWS of Michigan pet food bank coordinator, said many families in the Downriver area are facing hard times.

“There are programs available in our area to help keep humans fed, but not as many resources are available to keep pet food bowls filled,” Thomlinson said. “Our pet food bank program strives to make sure that no furry family member goes hungry.”

Stephanie Doran, PAWS of Michigan’s president, said taking pet photos with Santa is a fun event that benefits a great cause.

Santa (Rob Dyszewski of White Lake Township) brought his own dog, Scout, for The PAWS of Michigan Pet Photos with Santa. This year’s photo-taking opportunity is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 7

“Many people have their children or the entire family pose with their pets,” Doran said. “The photos make great holiday greeting cards, gifts or lasting keepsakes. We hope that the community is generous and helps us stuff Santa’s sleigh with lots of cat and dog food and cat litter.”

Appointments are not necessary for this event, but the organization suggests you leave your pet in the car while you register inside The PAWS Clinic.
