Funds will also be used for families to purchase toys and clothing for their children.

The Salvation Army has a long history of meeting basic needs in Torrington and Goshen, having served this area since 1886. Many residents go to The Salvation Army when they have nowhere else to turn. “Although we are committed to serving the individuals and families of the community, the strength of our services depends upon the generous support of organizations such as the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation,” said Major Tina Streck of the Torrington Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army is committed to meeting needs while respecting clients’ dignity and pride, treating those that come through their doors as human beings faced with unique challenges.

Winchester Public Schools receives grant

WINCHESTER — In early December, The Batcheller Early Education Center received a grant from the Draper Foundation Fund, a fund of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation. These funds, along with several private donations, permitted the school to purchase clothing for students to play outdoors during recess. Forty-one children from preschool through second grade benefitted from items such as snow pants and boots. Without these funds, many students would not be able to play in the snow with their friends because they lack proper winter attire. The support and generosity of the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation have made it possible for many students to enjoy outdoor play this winter.
