CHESHIRE — Thomaston Feed’s South Main Street store will be moving to a larger location in mid-March, one of the store’s owners said.
The store, which is currently located at 851 S Main St., will be moving into a vacant space between Bagelicious and Advance Auto Parts in the Cheshire Shopping Center, said Nicci Cammack, who owns Thomaston Feed with Mark Poveromo. Thomaston Feed has had its Cheshire location for about four years, Cammack said.
“We’ve actually outgrown our current location,” she said. “Where we’re located now has 3,000 square feet and our new a space will have 5,900 square feet. It’s going to allow us more space so that we can purchase larger volumes of food, which will allow us to offer better prices.”
Thomaston Feed specializes in natural pet products and Cammack said “there is a misconception we have higher prices than other stores because of that.”
Thomaston Feed has three other locations: Thomaston, Brookfield and Rivervale, N.J.
Jerry Sitko, Cheshire’s economic development coordinator, said he is pleased Cammack and Poveromo were able to find the space they needed without having to move their business out of town.
“I’m glad they are doing well enough that they need the additional space,” Sitko said.
The Cheshire Shopping Center, which has just over 81,000 square feet of retail space, is owned by Tartaglia Commercial Properties in Monroe.
The retail center is currently in a state of flux.
One tenant, Consignment Originals, relocated to Maplecroft Plaza last year. Another tenant, FoodWorks Natural Market, is scheduled to close its doors in the next few weeks.
The space that Thomaston Feed is moving into was once part of a larger Staples location in the Cheshire Shopping Center. The 15,000 square-foot Staples closed in July 2014 and the storefront was subdivided, with Advance Auto Parts taking 10,000 square feet of the space.
