There are few things more frightening than learning that a recall has affected you — especially if it is a product related to your four-legged friend. But there’s no reason to fly into a panic; many contaminations are caught before they become widespread, and there are simple steps you can take to keep you (and your pets) safe.
But first thing’s first: Check and see if you have come into contact with any of the affected products.
The following four dog foods and treats have recently tested positive for Salmonella, which is not only dangerous to pets, but to humans who have had contact with the products. Symptoms (which are similar in humans and animals) include lethargy, fever, body aches, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and diarrhea.

- Stop feeding these products to your pet immediately.
- If you (or anyone else who feeds your dog) has had contact with the products and are experiencing Salmonella symptoms, see a doctor immediately.
- If your pet has had contact with the products, take them to a vet immediately. Animals can be affected by Salmonella, even if they appear perfectly healthy.
- Once you confirm everyone is safe, check the product’s recall page to find out how to receive a full refund.
