VCA Charities launched its first pet food pantry in Tennessee on Tuesday.
VCA teamed up with Hill’s Science Diet and SAFPAW, the Southern Alliance for People and Animal Welfare to distribute 400 pounds of pet food to homeless camps and to other pet owners who might not be able to afford it.
“We can help get the food out to the people that can’t get to us,” said Laurie Green, Executive Director of SAFPAW. “It helps further our mission of working with homeless pet owners and pet owners who are housed but living in poverty, and elderly pet owners.”
On top of the new pet food pantry, VCA Charities also made a $10,000 donation to SAFPAW, allowing it to get quality pet food to thousands of animals in need.
“There is no way to adequately say how thankful I am,” said Green. “Our mission runs on donations and grants. We can have the best intentions in the world, but we can’t put boots on the ground without charities like VCA and Hill’s, we just can’t do it.”
