SPRINGFIELD — Big Y Foods has donated close to 25,000 pounds of pet food and supplies to 45 different local animal shelters through its fourth annual "May is Pet Month" initiative.The program, which ran in all 70 Big Y markets from April 26-May 30, encouraged shoppers to purchase food and other supplies for a local shelter as part of the company's ongoing effort to give back to the community.Over $100,000 was raised from these donations to be distributed to the Humane Society of Connecticut, Kenway's Cause, Fur Gotten Tails Animal Rescue, and the MSPCA of Massachusetts.Big Y operates Berkshire outlets in Adams, Great Barrington, Lee, North Adams and Pittsfield.
