The food was donated by Long Leash on Life, a natural pet food store in Albuquerque.
“All of this food will be distributed through pet food banks, through rescue groups, through shelters,” said Norm Shrout, who co-owns Long Leash on Life.
The pet food is a welcome gift for Stephanie Kaylan, the founder of Wanagi Wolf Rescue.
“It just makes me cry because their kindness is amazing,” she said.
The food also helps senior citizens who can’t afford to provide for their pet.
“Sometimes they have to choose between, pharmaceuticals versus feeding their animal and so many times those seniors are going to choose to feed their pet instead of themselves,” said Autumn Gray of Animal Humane of New Mexico.
The donated food will be spread across the state, including rural shelters.
This was the 4th Annual PAY IT PET-WARD Food Drive Donation.
