New animal shelter opens pet food pantry | News - Bristol Herald Courier

BRISTOL, Va. — Pet owners in need of food and supplies can now get help from the Bristol Virginia Animal Shelter.

“Due to the incredible generosity by the residents of our region, I am happy to announce that our pet food pantry is now open,” shelter manager Deena Bouton said Tuesday.

Anyone in need of dog or cat food is welcome to visit the new shelter on Shakesville Road for supplies, she added.

For months, Bouton has been accepting donations for the shelter and the pantry.

“I plan on keeping it open,” Bouton said. “There may be times I get low, but I hope to help as long as I have food to donate.”

The shelter has received many donations recently from Virginia and Tennessee residents, and Bouton said she is allowing residents from both states to pick up needed items.

“My ultimate goal is to keep an owner from having to give up an animal just because they can’t afford food,” Bouton said.

The shelter’s new pantry also has collars and dog beds available for pet owners. One doghouse is also currently available.

The shelter is open Tuesday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shelter, at 2215 Shakesville Road in Bristol, Virginia, can be contacted at 276-645-3714.
