Bastrop County animal shelter in need of pet food, supplies - Austin American-Statesman

The Bastrop County animal shelter on Tuesday put out a plea on social media for pet food, towels and other items as its intake of animals increases in summer.

“The summer months are the worst times for us, as puppy and kitten season hits us hard and we are constantly at capacity,” the shelter said. “Right now, we are critically low on Purina One dog food and towels.”

The shelter said it would “love and appreciate” any immediate donations but it’s also seeking long-term solutions, such as corporate sponsorships. It said it welcomes any ideas or suggestions from the public on how to keep donations rolling in year-round.

“We imagine our community is growing tired of our constant pleas for pet food and other items,” the shelter said. “We wish we lived in a county where these things were provided to us, but sadly we do not.”

Anyone interested in donating items may drop off pet food and supplies at the shelter, 589 Cool Water Drive in Bastrop, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week.

The shelter also has an Amazon wish list online where donations can be made at https://amzn.to/31D06Tn.
