FROSTBURG — The Frostburg Lions Club will hold the ninth annual Pet Food Drive, benefiting the Ark of Hope Animal Rescue, on Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Save A Lot.
The Ark of Hope, located in the Oldtown/Flintstone area, is a “no kill” animal rescue organization that relies solely on donations from the public to care for its residents.
The Ark has over 25 cats and 15 dogs in residence.
“This pet food drive is critical to the continuation of service,” said Lion Susan Munck.
“Without the assistance that this drive provides, it would be very difficult for us at the Ark.”
Last year, the Pet Food Drive collected over 800 pounds of pet food and supplies as well as cash donations.
Lions will be on hand with shopping lists and to accept donations.
In addition to pet food, treats and toys and cleaning supplies such as bleach and laundry detergent are also needed. “Anything that you may use for your pet, the Ark can use,” said Munck.
To help pay the bills at the Ark of Hope, Dianne and Bobby Care also operate Arctic Ridge Kennels, a boarding facility for dogs and cats. Profit from the boarding side of the operation helps to fund the Ark.
The Ark of Hope receives no taxpayer money. Donations are tax deductible and can be mailed to Lions Pet Food, P.O. Box 371, Frostburg, MD 21532. For more information, call 301-687-0212. To volunteer at the Ark, call 301-478-3300.
