KLN Family Brands-owned Tuffy’s Pet Foods will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on August 7 to mark the beginning of construction on its new, $60 million pet treat production facility in Delano, MN, trade and local news publications reported this week.

Scheduled for a November 2020 startup, the 170,000-sq-ft Minnesota plant will have an annual production capacity of 25,000 tn of dog and cat treats, according to coverage by Twin Cities Business Magazine

The project is slated to create about 150 new jobs, KLN Family Brands Chief Executive Officer Charlie Nelson told Finance & Commerce. The executive said the company selected Delano for the new facility because of the availability of workers there. KLN Family Brands is based in Perham, MN.

“There are more jobs than people in our community [Perham], so one driving factor in choosing a different location was as simple as workforce,” Nelson said in the Finance & Commerce article. “We weren’t interested in robbing Peter to pay Paul. We felt the best thing was look elsewhere for our pet treat facility expansion.”

Tuffy’s Pet Foods also operates a 130,000-sq-ft manufacturing plant in Perham.
