(Kirksville, MO) – The Adair County Public Library is accepting pet food and cat litter donations this month in exchange for fine forgiveness.

October is also Shelter Dog Awareness month so the donations will go towards the Adair County Humane Society.

For every pound or can of pet food you donate the library will take $1.00 off your fine.

The library’s director says many of their librarian adopted pets from the shelter so they want to give back in any way they can.

“You don’t have to have a library fine to donate. If you have some pet food maybe you bought and your dog doesn’t like or cat food, you don’t have the cat any longer go ahead and bring it in. It’s a good way to help out the animal shelter, “said Jamie Livingston.

If you do go to the library and donate, they are is also having a Halloween pet costume contest.

You vote by dropping spare change in the cups right at checkout.

All change collected from the costume contest will be used to buy animal books for the children’s section.

The costume contest and fine forgiveness both end October 31st.
