Brattleboro bank is home base for pet food drive - Brattleboro Reformer

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Savings & Loan is hosting a "Furry Friends" pet food drive to support the Windham County Humane Society. Donations will be accepted during Thanksgiving week and will help keep WCHS's Free Pet Food Pantry stocked throughout the year.

"This fundraiser is a natural fit for us because we are an office of animal-lovers," said Joe Little, founder and president of Park Place Financial Advisors, the bank's wealth management division. "But it's about more than just helping our neighbors care for their beloved pets. We are proud to support WCHS, an organization that does so much for this community."

For last year's pet food drive, Little built a dog house for the lobby of the bank; it served as the home base for donation collection. The dog house will be there again this year and he expects that donations will surpass last year's haul.

The pet food drive will run Nov. 25-29, during which time everyone is welcome to drop their donations off in the lobby of Brattleboro Savings & Loan, regardless of whether they are customers of the bank. All wet and dry food that has not passed expiration is appreciated, as well as shelter supplies, pet toys, and monetary gifts. A full wish list of needed items can be found at the WCHS website.

"We are very fortunate to have such a strong and supportive partnership with Brattleboro Savings & Loan," said WCHS Development Director John O'Farrell. "The programs and services we provide each and every day would not be possible without the continued and generous support of our many wonderful community donors and dedicated efforts of our fabulous volunteers."

The pet food drive is a labor of love for the employees at Brattleboro Savings & Loan who are home to a combined 58 cats, 38 dogs, 11 chickens, four horses, two hamsters, one duck and a fish. This year's food drive will feature a gallery wall of the extended BS&L animal family. Members of the community are invited to bring in photos of their own pet friends when they drop off their donation.

"This event is another opportunity for us to give back to this extraordinary community," said Dan Yates, president and CEO of Brattleboro Savings & Loan. "We are proud to partner with the Windham County Humane Society and to bring people together to provide some relief to our neighbors with pets."
