Pitt Street Brewing donating portion of sales to Pet Food Pantry of ENC - WITN

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) The Big Paw Project is in Greenville and it's creating Bright Friday to kick off the holiday season.

The Big Paw Project is helping raise awareness and collect much needed items for the Pet Food Pantry of Eastern North Carolina.

The Pet Food Pantry of Eastern North Carolina says 24 percent of families in Pitt County live below the poverty line.

And of those families, there are 17,000 animals that go without.

The Big Paw Project is hoping to change those numbers.

The Pet Food Pantry of ENC helps feed pets when families aren't financially capable of doing it themselves.

Samantha Crowe is a volunteer at the pet food pantry and says the pantry serves over 600 family pets each month.

The pantry is the first dedicated charitable pet food resource that helps prevent abandonment or the surrender of pets.

Crowe says the organization has a lot of services they offer to families who can't afford to take care of their pets, including a spay and neuter program.

Crowe says the pantry is in serious need of cat food and canned dog food.

The Pitt Street Brewing Company will be donating 15% of their sales tonight until 7 pm to the Pet Food Pantry of Eastern North Carolina.

The Pet Food Pantry will be heading to Ocracoke Island tomorrow to help with relief efforts so a lot of the donations will be used to help families who suffered from the tropical storm last weekend.
