MIDVALE — Unified police are investigating a former pet store employee accused of taking more than $200,000 worth of pet supplies and selling them online, according to a recently unsealed search warrant affidavit.

In August, the directors of the loss prevention department at PetCo contacted Unified police about an investigation into a manager at their store at 1090 E. Fort Union Blvd., according to the affidavit filed in 3rd District Court. The man had worked at the store for 12 years.

Investigators said they found three eBay accounts all linked to the man. One was opened in September of 2006.

"The total sales for this seller account is $255,191, of which $169,795 is for pet supplies," the warrant states.

A second account was opened in 2013. "The total sales for this seller account is $37,773, of which $18,797 is for pet supplies," according to the affidavit.

A third eBay account was opened in 2015. "The total sales for this seller account is $7,467, of which $7,052 is for pet supplies," the warrant states.

Police detectives served a search warrant at the man's apartment and seized items including dog bark controls, a wireless fence system, UltraEdge dog clippers, portable kennels, pet brushes, Zenpet dog recovery collars and Little Dog Remote Trainers.

As of Thursday, the man had not been arrested nor charged. Unified police said the case is still in the early stages of investigation.
