Solid Gold Pet, a maker of cat and dog food, treats and supplements, is moving its headquarters from South Carolina to Chesterfield.
Solid Gold plans to move into more than 6,000 square feet of office space at 15455 Conway Road at the end of this month, CEO and President Bob Rubin told the Post-Dispatch. Rubin was in Chesterfield on Thursday to announce the relocation.
The company plans to add 20 jobs in administration, marketing and finance over the next few months. With the new hires, Solid Gold will have about 25 employees in Chesterfield and 25 sales associates located throughout the country.
The St. Louis region has multiple pet industry companies that employ thousands of workers, including Nestlé Purina PetCare, United Pet Group, Royal Canin USA, Nature’s Variety and Whitebridge Pet Brands.
Being close to supply chain and manufacturing facilities in Missouri and Kansas was a contributing factor in Solid Gold’s decision to move. “St. Louis’ central location makes it much easier for us to service our customers,” Rubin said.
Solid Gold’s products are sold locally at Petco, and independent pet retailers including Treats Unleashed. The company markets itself as the country’s “first holistic pet food,” and some products are grain-free and gluten free. Founded in 1974, Solid Gold moved its headquarters from San Diego to Greenville, S.C., in 2014.
The state of Missouri offered Solid Gold $438,083 incentives through the Missouri Works program for job creation, according to Missouri Department of Economic Development spokeswoman Amy Susan.
“Their decision to come to St. Louis County solidifies that it’s an attractive place to do business,” said St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger.
