Bulletin Board: Humane Pennsylvania to give away free pet food - Reading Eagle

Humane Pennsylvania will distribute free cat and dog food Saturday to pet owners from 9:30 a.m. to noon at its headquarters, 1729 N. 11th St.

The shelter hopes that the pet food assistance will aid families in need and help keep pets in their homes.Humane Pennsylvania has seen an increase in pet food donations this holiday season, thanks to regional supporters and businesses.The pet food will be distributed on a first come, first-served basis until supplies run out or noon.Learn more about the shelter at humanepa.org or 610-921-2348.


The Heritage of Green Hills in Cumru Township will open its model train room to the public Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Heritage's resident model-railroad enthusiasts will show off scores of vintage trains traveling along more than 400 feet of track.Visitors will have the opportunity to see the railroad and chat with those who built it. There also will be refreshments, and Santa Claus will be there.The display features three platforms, including one that circles the top of the room, and almost a dozen trains.


Superheroes from the volunteer group Cosplayers Care will visit the Reading Public Library, Fifth and Franklin streets, on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

It's part of the Super Holiday program for families. Visiting will be superheroes and video game favorites including Spider-Man, Batman, Raven and Deadpool.The program will include crafts and treats as well as photo-ops with superheroes, heroines and video game characters.No registration is needed. The Lutheran Home at Topton's monthly bereavement forum will host a Blue Christmas worship service on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

The bereavement forum and the service will be held in Deibert Hall on the first floor of the skilled nursing care center on the Topton campus at 1 S. Home Ave.Facilitated by the Rev. Colleen G.
