In August, I wrote a story about a senior tuxedo cat named George, a resident at the Will County Humane Society in Shorewood.

Sadly, George still is waiting for a home. Also sadly, many more puppies, dogs, kittens and cats are, as well. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said 6.5 million companion animals enter animal shelters every year.

If you can, make a difference in one of their lives. Bring one home for Christmas.

Below is information on the local shelters and rescues that contribute weekly to “Pets of the Week.”
