GALESBURG — Tri States Public Radio partnered with Thorn’s Pets and Supplies in Galesburg to make a donation of 380 pounds of food and supplies to the Knox County Humane Society. Equal donations also were made to Western Illinois Animal Rescue in Warren County and, via partnership with Horse and Hound Country Store in Burlington, Iowa, to the Henderson County Humane Society
The donations were part of Pledge Drive and Pets, a promotion to honor the memory of longtime Tri States Public Radio supporter Gil Belles, who died last spring. Belles and his cat, Chessie Two, The Calico Princess were familiar to Tri States Public Radio listeners as Gil and Chessie underwrote a number of programs on the station. Pledge Drive and Pets was part of TSPR’s fall fund drive; for every $100 raised, five pounds of food and supplies would be donated by two partnering pet supply stores, Thorn’s and Horse and Hound Country Store in Burlington.
The total donation was divided between 10 humane societies in the TSPR listening area. The promotion generated over 3,800 pounds of food and supplies for the regional humane societies.
