FDA issues recalls for pet food in possible outbreak | Daily Mail Online - Daily Mail

A listeria and salmonella outbreak has forced the Federal Drug Administration to issue multiple recalls of pet food products marking the latest incident to hit the industry this month. 

On Friday, the government agency sent out notices to Northwest Naturals of Portland, Oregon and TruPet, LLC of Milford, Ohio, respectively, asking them to voluntarily recall specifics products that has reportedly made a number of animals sick, according to UPI. 

The recall includes: 5-pound frozen food chubs labeled Chicken and Salmon Recipe from the Portland company and Treat Me Crunchy Beef Delight, 2.5 ounce dog treats from the other.

Fears of a possible listeria outbreak led to the notice being sent to Northwest Naturals' for its raw diet for dogs food chubs.   

According to UPI, the product was an isolated batch sent to distributors in California, Washington, Texas, Michigan, Georgia, and Rhode Island. 

The UPC code is 087316384406 with a best before code of 15082218.

TruPet's dog treats were recalled for possible salmonella contamination. Their products were distributed throughout the US through online retailer Chewy.com and TruDog.com.

The affected products are identified by Lot No. 2019051413753.

Listeria monocytogenes is a potentially deadly bacteria than can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.

Salmonella is an infectious bacteria that poses similar risks, and cause bloody diarrhea in rare cases.  

The FDA decision is the latest in a string of pet food recalls that have transpired just this month. 

'Darwin's Natural and ZooLogics pet foods made by Arrow Reliance of Tukwila, Wash., Beefy Munchies from Smokehouse Pet Products, Inc. of Sun Valley, Calif., 7-inch bully sticks from Red Barn pet products of Long Beach, Calif., and ground turkey pet food from Raws for Paws of Minneapolis, Minn.,' are some of the companies that have been affected, according to UPI.  

J.M. Smucker Co. withdrew shipments of Gravy Train, Kibbles n' Bits, Ol' Roy and Skippy brands, made by Big Heart Pet Foods, a Smucker subsidiary, also had a recall issued this month.
