Eau Claire (CAROL CARSON)- The Annual Feed the Need Pet Food Drive, organized by the Chippewa Valley Cat Club and Oakwood Hills Animal Hospital starts on November 1st and they are asking for donations of dog and cat food.
By donating to the Feed The Need Pet Food drive you will be helping to keep pets out of shelters and in their loving homes. According to the director at St. Francis dry dog and cat food are the two most requested items. Boxx Sanitation has again stepped up to provide the donation containers at each of the collection points. In the past businesses like Walmart and Vets Plus in Menomonie have made a valued contribution.
They are looking for the entire community’s help to collect more than last year’s record total of 10,138 pounds. All items collected are delivered to the St. Francis Food Pantry on Truax Blvd in Eau Claire as it is one of the few pantries to distribute pet food to clients. While they do this drive during the holiday season pet food can be donated directly to St. Francis anytime during the year.
They have been holding this food drive since 2011 and continue to still see a need. The recent ALICE report complied by the United Way estimated that roughly 40 of families in the Chippewa Valley struggle financially. Some families who are struggling will see their pets as extra mouths to feed and decide to let their pets go. Some people choose to go hungry themselves in an effort to keep their pets.
