Event helps give healthy start to 2019 - Greenville Daily Reflector

A chance to get a healthy start to the year and support the local pet food pantry will take place on Tuesday in the parking lot of Chicos in downtown Greenville

The Greenville Organization of Runners will begin its annual Restart Run up Fifth Street at 1 p.m. GORun holds the free event as part of its efforts to create a healthy community and support The Pet Food Pantry of Eastern North Carolina, organizer Tony Parker said. All runners are asked to bring a dry bag of either cat or dog food for the pantry.

“We realize that we have very few times when we can gather as a whole,” Parker said. “New Year's Day is a welcome opportunity to come together, chat, cut up, carry on, restart, and kick off the new year with a goal of an all round healthy community.”

The group will meet in front of Chico's Mexican Restaurant, 521 Cotanche St., and head up Fifth Street. The turnaround point will be marked near Green Springs Park for participants to head back.

The roughly three-mile course gives everyone ample time to talk with friends and neighbors, and to commit to a shared healthy lifestyle, Parker said.

This is a self-paced, untimed event, Parker said. Several will run at varying speeds and others will walk.

“You will see strollers and people of all abilities and ages stepping out,” he sad. “The event is really designed for all of us to gather with all of you, and confirm our sense of dedicated community. I cannot promise you the stars, but I can promise a fun time.”

The Pet Food Pantry, 408 W. Arlington Blvd., B-1, distributes pet food from 1-4 p.m. to needy pet owners on the second Sunday of each month. It also provides pet food to pet owners through the Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program. The Pantry relies entirely on donations.
