Leon County Humane Society collecting pet food donations for seniors in need - WTXL ABC 27

LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Leon County Humane Society is striving to bring holiday cheer to local animal loving senior citizens who are in need.

LCHS manages a community pet food pantry, that allows them to provide food to individuals at risk of losing their pets due to financial hardship.

LCHS says senior citizens who are struggling financially benefit the most from this pantry.

They also make regular donations of pet food and supplies to Elder Care Services for Meals on Wheels recipients.

This helps to ensure that the recipients are enjoying their meal and that their pets are fed as well.

Unfortunately, LCHS says the pantry is very low on food at this time.

LCHS is currently asking for the community to donate items so they can send a large donation of pet food and other supplies to Elder Care Services.

LCSO also says that middle and high school students that donate could earn community service hours as apart of their Bene-kit Volunteering Program.

No specific brand of food is requested, but their greatest needs include:

  • Dry dog and cat food (open pet food is accepted if it is fresh and the bag is taped up well)
  • Canned dog and cat food
  • Dog and cat treats
  • Cat litter

Donations can be dropped off at the Leon County Humane Society office at 413 Timberlane Road.
