The Humane Society of Washington County announced its first Give Thanks community pet-food drive.
Pet-food donations will be collected for needy pets in the community from today to Friday, Nov. 24, at the shelter, 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown.
“During this special season of thanks, we’re honored to offer the community a tangible way to help people in need care for the animals they so dearly love,” Colin Berry, development director for HSWC, said in a news release. “Now more than ever, it’s imperative that we honor the bond between humans and their animals and support pet owners until they can get back up on their feet again.”
Donations may be dropped off at the pet-food bank truck that will be stationed in front of the shelter during normal business hours. Any kind of pet food is accepted, although cat food is needed most.
Although the HSWC operates a pet-food bank at the shelter year-round, the food donated during the Give Thanks drive will be distributed to those in need by members of the HSWC field-services department during their annual holiday outreach day in mid-December.
