AUSTIN, TX — Tomlinson's Feed facilitated a record donation of 194,551 pounds of pet food to help feed homeless animals after a donation drive shattered previous records.
The Pound 4 Pound pet food donation drive collected 150,000 pounds of food last year, according to a press release. The drive lasts from Black Friday to Christmas Eve and donates the food to local rescue organizations. Donations are made by generous customers who are asked if they want to donate a bag of healthy pet food.
Certain manufacturers then match the amount of food as a separate donation.
According to information in the release, nearly 200,000 pounds of food will feet over 540 homeless animals for all of 2018 among 39 rescue organizations.
Pound 4 Pound is "two-fold: not only does it allow rescue groups to focus their funds on medical cases, transportation, and other essential needs, but the healthy food helps to ensure that pets remain healthy and adoptable until they find a forever home."
Scott Click is the second generation owner of Tomlinson's and a native Austinite.
"It can be easy to take for granted the fact that Austin is so pet-friendly," he said, "but the results of this year's drive show how truly giving are pet lovers in our city."
